Description The action took place in the North Sea during heavy weather.

At daybreak 53º30'N 3ºE HMS Onyx (80gun) sighted a sail to the south. The battle began at 0800Hrs and at 1030hrs having received heavy damage the Dutch Manly  (12-gun) struck her colours.

Manly lost 5 killed and 6 wounded out of 94 aboard. Onyx lost 3 wounded.

Manly was originally British, having been captured by the Dutch three years before.
