| Description |
The action took place near Piran in the Adriatic. HMS Weazle was accompanying HMS Victorious in the pursuit of the French ships Rivoli accompanied by Mercure, Lena, Mamelouk and 2 smaller gunboats. Victorious instructed Weazel to engage the accompanying French escorts while she engaged the French flagship Rivoli. Weazel engaged the Mercure the rearmost French ship at 0415hrs and after a battle lasting 20 minutes Mercure exploded. Weazel launched boats to rescue survivors but only three were saved.
