This the second ship to carry the name HMS Canopus was laid down in Jan-1897 and completed in Dec-1899.
She served with the Mediterranean Fleet from 1899-1903. Then with the Atlantic, Channel, Reserve and Home Fleets until 1908, when she returned to the Mediterranean for 18 months. Returning to the Home Fleet until the outbreak of WW1. She was detached
to the South Atlantic and was off the coast of Chile during the Battle of
Coronel, but was unable to join the action which resulted in the sinking
of the Good Hope and Monmouth by German Forces. She joined the Dardanelles force early in 1915, and remained there until 1916. When she returned to home waters and served as hospital ship at Chatham, for the remainder of the war.
Won the Battle Honour: Dardanelles 1915-16.
