This the only ship to carry the name HMS Kimberley was a K
Class, destroyer. Built by Thorneycroft, laid down Jan-1938, launched 01-Jun-1939, and commissioned 21-Dec-1939. On commissioning joined the Home Fleet. Took part in the Norwegian campaign, including the 2nd Battle of Narvik. Then Apr-1940 it was to the Mediterranean, and on to the Red Sea late 1940. Assisted with the Greece evacuations, Apr-1941, and Crete evacuations a month later. June-1941 saw operations off Syria then Malta convoy work. Feb-1942 had her stern blown off by a torpedo from U-77, but survived. Repairs at Bombay took until Jan-1944. Jun-1944 was operations for the Normandy invasion, then Aug-1944 back to the Mediterranean again. This time to assist in the invasion of southern France. After this it was on to the Adriatic, and she ended the war in the Aegean Sea. Sold 30-Mar-1949 and broken up at Troon. Won the Battle Honours: Narvik 1940, Norway 1940, East Indies 1940, Greece 1941, Crete 1941, Libya 1941-42, Malta Convoys 1941, Aegean 1944 and Adriatic 1944.
