Caesars Raid 55BC - Military Units |

|
The naval force comprised about 80 transports for the legions, plus 18
transports for the cavalry plus a number of warships.
Most of the warships comprised triremes (three's) but a small number of fours and fives were also included. Smaller scoutships (speculatoria navigia) and scaphae (small boats towed behind the larger warships) completed the naval component. The landing force comprised two legions - the Seventh (VII) and the Tenth (X), plus about 500 cavalry. A total force of about 10,000. Caesar's remaining six legions were left in Gaul. Overall the size of the invading force was not large and they also carried limited supplies as they did not intend to remain permanently in Britain.
