F Class (1915) SS

The F Class of submarines were an experimental class designed to an Admiralty 1912 specification for comparison with other experimental boats of the time.

They were based on the V Class (1915), and had similar performance.

Although a total of eight boats were planned, the final 5 were abandoned when WW1 broke out.

In service the three operational boats were initially used for local defence patrols. Later they were assigned training duties from 1917.

They were all paid off by Jul-1919.
