HMS Hotspur (1936) DD  (4th)

    
This the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Hotspur was an H Class, destroyer.

Built by Scotts, laid down 27-Feb-1935, launched 23-Mar-1936, and commissioned 29-Dec-1936.

On commissioning, joined the 2nd Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean, and was there at the start of WW2.

Sent initially to the South Atlantic, then early 1940 to home waters.

Took part in the Norwegian campaign, including the 1st Battle of Narvik. Where she received damage from shellfire and rammed Hotspur.

After repairs it was back to the Mediterranean.

A short spell with e Eastern Fleet in the Indian Ocean followed Mar-Jun-1942. Then back again to the Mediterranean until Apr-1943. When it was time to return to the UK for refit and conversion for escort duties.

Spend the remainder of the war in Western Approaches Command as part of C4 then 14th Escort Group.

Paid off Oct-1947

Sold to Dominica 23-Nov-1948 and renamed Duarte.

Won the Battle Honours: Narvik 1940, Spartivento 1940, Mediterranean 1940-41, Atlantic 1940-44, Matapan 1941, Greece 1941, Crete 1941, Libya 1941-42 and Normandy 1944.
