HMS Kingston (1939) DD  (4th)

    
This the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Kingston was a K Class, destroyer.

Built by White, laid down 06-Oct-1937, launched 09-Jan-1939, and commissioned 14-Sep-1939.

Joined the Home Fleet on commissioning.

Nov-1939 sank U-35 in company with HMS Kashmir and Icarus.

Apr 1940 it was to the Mediterranean, and jun-1940 to the Red Sea. Where she assisted in sinking the Italian submarine Torricelli by gunfire.

Then later in Apr-1940 helped with the evacuations from Greece, and May-1940 from Crete. Jun-1940 saw operations off Syria followed by Malta convoy escort work.

Mar-1942 took part in the 2nd battle of Sirte and received damage from near misses. While in dry dock at Malta for repairs, was bombed 11-Apr-1942 and declared a constructive total loss.

The hull was later used as a blockship.

Won the Battle Honours: Atlantic 1939, North Sea 1939, East Indies 1940, Greece 1941, Crete 1941, Malta Convoys 1941-42, Libya 1941 and Sirte 1942.
